Description of Services
Genetic Counselling Program
Genetics Clinics
- Provides information to individuals and families who are affected by or at-risk for inherited and/or genetic conditions
- Arranging and interpreting genetic laboratory test results
- Assessment and diagnosis of genetic disorders
- Discussion of the chance of developing and passing the disorder on
- Information about the ways in which it may be prevented or helped
- Participation in education and research
- Provision of medical information and advice about genetic disease or condition to people at risk of a disorder that might be hereditary
Genetics Clinics
- Holds clinics four to five times per year when one or two consulting geneticists visit Thunder Bay
- Offers videoconferencing during the times between each clinic, if an urgent referral is needed
