Description of Services
Emergency room care * doctors, nurses, and other health professionals assess and treat life-threatening injuries or severe illness
Visit emergency department for life-threatening conditions or injuries such as:
Bring to Emergency Department:
Patients are seen in order of need * emergency care is not provided on a first-come first-serve basis * wait depends on:
After assessment further tests may be necessary (e.g. X-rays or blood tests), or to be seen by a specialist
Wait times not given over the phone
Location: On the main level of HHCC – through the main entrance or the emergency entrance

Visit emergency department for life-threatening conditions or injuries such as:
- chest pain or abdominal pain
- fevers in infants younger than three months
- internal bleeding
- major trauma
- mental health concerns
- numbness or weakness in arms or hands
- pregnancy-related emergencies
- seizures or stroke symptoms
- sexual assault
- shortness of breath
Bring to Emergency Department:
- Ontario Health card and another piece of photo ID
- children need birth certificate and Ontario Health Card
- current medications (including herbal remedies)
Patients are seen in order of need * emergency care is not provided on a first-come first-serve basis * wait depends on:
- urgency of care
- urgency care of others waiting, including those who arrive by ambulance
- how busy it is upon arrival
